  • Provision Empty Mailboxes in Office365, while retaining Lotus Notes clients for Legacy mails
    • Pros:
      • This would be a simple cut-over migration actually with no migration involved
      • No need for a third party migration toolset
      • Faster go live
      • Reduced complexity
    • Cons:
      • No old mails available in Office365
      • Reduced user experience as users have to work with 2 clients [Outlook and Lotus Notes] for their mails
      • IT has to support and manage two different set of clients and manage software lifecycle

  • Provision New Mailboxes in Office 365 and migrate a small number of mails [15/30/45/60 days], while retaining Lotus Notes clients for Legacy mails
    • Pros:
      • Better user experience as it ensure continuity for users with last few mails available
      • Migration of NSF files to PSTs for old mails that can be attached to Outlook client
      • Single client to be managed for user mails
    • Cons:
      • Cost of third party migration tool
      • PSTs exist in the environment. Chances of loss of old mails (maintained in PSTs) if there are PST corruptions and not client end backups in the organization
      • Additional effort and time required as part of migration to convert NSFs to PSTs
      • IT has to support and manage two different set of clients and manage software lifecycle

  • Provision New Mailboxes in Office 365 and migrate all mails, decommission Lotus Notes clients
    • Pros:
      • Higer user experience as it will ensure continuity for users with all mails available at one location
      • No requirement of PSTs to be managed and maintained in the environment (on-premises)
      • Single client to be managed for user mails
    • Cons:
      • Cost of third party migration tool
      • Longer migration timelines, resulting in affected end users experience w.r.t Coexistence features like free/busy and calendaring.

  • Provision New Mailboxes in Office 365 and migrate all mails and maintain coexistence, decommission Lotus Notes clients
    • Pros:
      • Best user experience as it ensure continuity for users with all mails available
      • Single client to be managed for user mails
      • No loss of end user experience across both the Lotus Notes and Office 365 environments
      • Extensive and proper coexistence with Directory Synchronization from Domino to On-Premises AD and Office 365 AD
    • Cons:
      • Additional Cost of third party migration tool, along with a coexistence tool
      • Longer timelines
      • Complexity involved in managing and supporting 2 environments during the migration
